The reaction-intermediate analogue, CABP, and the Mg2+ ion cofactor, are present in each of the four active sites. The three classifications of disulfide bonds are shown: between the dimer-related Cys247 residues, the Cys449-Cys459 pairs, and the Cys172-Cys192 pairs. One can highlight the "true" crystallographic contact regions in a L2S2 unit; region I linking the hexadecamers around the 3-one axis and region 2 linking the stacked hexadecamers along the c-axis. View2 is designed for stereoviewing these contact regions, with L3, S3, L4, and S4 undisplayed. Kinemage 2 is an animation between Calpha traces of spinach & tobacco activated RuBisCO (L1S1 only), shown in the same perspective as figure 5 in the manuscript. Highlighted are the beta-peptide (L1, aa 466-472), alpha-A (S1, aa 23-35), and alpha-B (S1, aa 80-93), which contain specific mutations from spinach to tobacco RuBisCO -- note that only the solvent exposed sides are mutated, while the buried sidechains are conserved (except for one). This perspective allows for a good look at the barrel domain. CABP, CO2, and Mg2+ can be displayed, revealing their central location in the barrel. Kinemage 3 is an animation between sidechains contained in the hydrophobic pocket occupied by residue 309 in spinach and tobacco RuBisCO (Ile-spinach; Met-tobacco). One can observe the rotation of Phe117 and the subsequent rotations of Phe274 and Tyr269. This is the same perspective presented in figure 6 in the manuscript. View2 is ideal for stereoviewing.
